Dr. Fiore of Cy-Fair Hand and Wrist Expands to Assist Katy, TX Hand Patients with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Houston, TX (PRWEB) July 03, 2012

Dr. Fiore and his friendly staff at the Cy-Fair Hand and Wrist Surgical Associates would like to introduce themselves to the Katy, TX, area and inform this new patient population of several things they can do to help prevent the development of the painful wrist syndrome known as carpal tunnel.

Katy TX hand surgeon, Dr. Nicholas Fiore, recognizes that men and women are often very busy and overworked. Overuse of computer keyboards can aggravate this type of painful nerve entrapment in the wrist and is a common byproduct of the busy professional life of many people. However, there are a number of ways to protect yourself from enduring this painful syndrome or requiring costly surgery.

Many people dont realize that there are ways to use your computer to prevent your keyboard from aggravating a potential carpal tunnel problem, Dr. Fiore explains. We spend even more time on the keyboard at home and at the office than ever before. This trend toward increased computer use can aggravate an existing problem with carpal tunnel. Houston patients can do a number of small and easy things to dramatically reduce their risk.

Dr. Fiore goes on to explain how taking short breaks from the keyboard and doing simple stretching exercises can do wonders to relieve wrist tension and nerve entrapment. In the past, many people have realized that these short breaks can help with back or leg pain and have extended the use to wrist pain as well. The body is under a lot of stress when it is held in an unnatural position for a long period of time. Rotating the hands or shaking out the wrists can do a lot to alleviate the stress of typing.

Youll also want to do basic things like make sure your chair is the right height and you have proper wrist support or padding, says Dr. Fiore. Our office can provide you with a list of instructive hand and wrist exercises to improve the strength and flexibility.

For many hand surgery patients, carpal tunnel is often hard to diagnose and treat because the causes can be varied and unpredictable. There are a number of activities and medical conditions that can predispose a person to compression of the median nerve within the wrist and lead to the painful symptoms associated with this disorder. Trauma such as a sprain or fracture, overuse of the pituitary gland, rheumatoid arthritis, work stress, repeated use of vibrating tools, as well as fluid retention during menopause or pregnancy, can all contribute to the development of painful median nerve compression in the carpal tunnel of one or both wrists. Unfortunately, there are many instances in which no cause can be identified. Thankfully, the solution for this type of painful syndrome remains the same.

Katy, TX carpal tunnel patients shouldnt hesitate to contact Dr. Fiore and the Cy-Fair Hand and Wrist Surgical Associates if you have any questions about carpal tunnel syndrome. Houston patients are invited to visit their office for a personalized consultation and interview to determine their hand and wrist needs. Dr. Fiore will work with you to develop a surgical or nonsurgical plan to relieve your hand and wrist pain.
